How Can Engineering Quality Keep Pace with Growing Utility-Scale Solar Projects?

Share

As U.S. utility-scale solar projects grow in scale and complexity, maintaining consistent installation quality across thousands of electrical connections is becoming increasingly critical to long-term system reliability. Voltage Energy Group (“Voltage Energy”), a leading global provider of mission-critical power architecture solutions for utility-scale solar, BESS, and data center segments, is advancing an integrated EBOS solution that brings together engineering design, manufacturing quality, and field installation planning.

Advancing Reliability Through Engineering and Manufacturing Quality

Utility-scale solar projects require careful coordination of engineering, construction schedules, and quality throughout project execution. By shifting repetitive wiring activities from the field to controlled manufacturing environments, Voltage Energy's pre-assembled, pre-grouped plug-and-play harness solutions help streamline installation and support consistent project execution.

Factory-level quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), including connection verification and pre-labeling, help maintain connection quality before products reach the project site. Each wiring solution is pre-grouped according to the site layout, with strings pre-labeled by inverter number, combiner box number, and row number to simplify material identification and field installation.

Voltage Energy is also advancing its U.S. manufacturing capabilities through Voltage Power Ranch in Timberlake, North Carolina, where pilot production of LYNX PLUS has begun. The facility reinforces the company's commitment to manufacturing quality and factory-controlled assembly.

Digital engineering tools further connect design planning with project execution. Through 2D and 3D design capabilities, including 3D layout reports, simulation videos, and 360-degree walkthroughs, Voltage Energy enables project teams to visualize installation workflows and coordinate site-specific requirements before construction.

Integrating Product Innovation and Digital Services

Voltage Energy's system-level EBOS solution brings together innovative products, including LYNX PLUS and IBEX PLUS, to address evolving electrical architecture requirements in utility-scale solar projects. LYNX PLUS provides a trunk bus solution that offers greater flexibility in DC power collection with reduced reliance on combiner boxes, while IBEX PLUS combines copper and aluminum conductors to accommodate higher-current modules while optimizing material usage. As solar projects move toward higher power and higher voltage, Voltage Energy has standardized its entire product line at a 2kV DC rating to support emerging system architectures.

Complementing its product portfolio, Voltage Energy integrates digital engineering services to support project planning, installation preparation, and ongoing collaboration. Voltage Reality enables site-specific virtual reality training, while Voltage Connect serves as a centralized platform for project information, providing access to design updates, project status, and service information throughout the project lifecycle. Together, these capabilities connect engineered products with digital tools to support more coordinated project execution.

Reinforcing Engineering Expertise Through Industry Leadership

Jenny Levin, Director of Engineering at Voltage Energy, also highlighted this engineering-focused solution as an opening keynote speaker at PV Magazine USA Week 2026 on October 20, presenting “Factory Built, Field Ready,” where she shared perspectives on bringing factory-built wiring solutions into utility-scale solar project execution. Her presentation was also featured in pv magazine USA's coverage of factory-built EBOS solutions.

As utility-scale solar projects continue to scale, Voltage Energy remains focused on delivering engineered EBOS solutions that support consistent quality from manufacturing through field installation.
